Soya Awa was the very first tune that I composed for Ridma Weerawardene. During that time, I was strictly working as a composer/producer in Sri Lanka creating music for TV and radio commercials at Halien Production House where I met Ranil Goonawardane.
I was fortunate enough to work for several years with Ranil, whom I believe to be the smartest Sri Lankan music producer alive. In fact, Ranil is a phenomenal electric guitarist and I have recorded him on several occasions during our time together at the Halien Production House. But I do not underestimate his equally great abilities as a remarkable music producer.
There were only a few sessions where Ranil and I had the time to musically collaborate, and Soya Awa was one of them.
